Bear Week has grown to be very popular but it's a lot of fun. For any visit to Provincetown, I suggest scouting out the shows as soon as you arrive. Most run just one night of the week, so you may only have one chance to see them. Make dinner reservations as early as you can commit to them, otherwise you may end up eating very late.
I'm not sure if you're still looking for a place to stay, but all the guest houses in the West End are likely booked -- except for the really pricey ones. The East End may have more affordable options still, if you don't mind the long walk to the center of town.
Rent a bike. It's a great way to tour and get to the beaches.
Massachusetts blue laws require the bars to shut down by 1:00 am, so start drinking early.

Thanks! Due to a third party bear flake out, our original reservations disappeared. At the last minute, there were slim pickings, though I was able to do my thang and get us something. We've ended up with 2 nights in a hotel in the West End, the Chateau Provincetown, then 2 nights in one of the new rooms at Dexter's Inn right in the center of town.
Debating Kate Clinton as for shows. Not so worried about bars closing at 1am. Since we'll be drinking all day, plenty of time to meet new friends with hot tubs

We are thinking about heading over tomorrow morning for the day.
Our plans to go for a week got thwarted when my partners' family decided to visit from Colombia.... sigh!
But then again, I hate the crowds... but my partner loves them!
Hope you have a great time. Our friends that are already there are having a blast.

We were in town for July 4th week and left the Saturday that Bear Week started.
Stayed at Dexters and its a great choice! Rooms 12/14/15 are good choices.
Don't bother with the beach / marsh trek and just hit the Provincetown Inn Pool and beach.

Thinking of heading down on Thursday for the Ben Cohen benefit sponsored by the HRC.
Worth the drive and crowds to see Ben in person....
