MUC Hotel Recommendation

I am needing some hotel info for an overnight stay in MUC before heading back to LAX the following day. I will be arriving 8PM from LHR and will fly out the following day to LHR at 7AM. Cheap and nice place to stay for the night would help lower down the MR cost of this trip. Thanks in advance.

This question has been posed recently - search should bring up the detailed responses to that previous asking of the question.

In the meanwhile, IIRC, the basic question is whether you will bother to go into the central city (with a 20:00 arrival, I personally think it would be pointless).

Going from memory, the other options are hotels in small towns close to (but not at) MUC itself. The concern expressed by some is to be sure that you understand what, if any, transport options are available that early in the morning.

Someone noted that there is a hotel at one of the stops along the S-Bahn line (easy to walk to) - I don't know what the rates would be, but the advantage to that one is that you would not need to find a (pricey)cab at that hour of the morning, or worry that a less-expensive hotel (such as those that are often obtainable on Priceline) has a shuttle that leaves early enough to accommodate your 07:00 departure (IIRC, the first S8 train leaves the Munich Hauptbahnof at about 03:45, meaning that you could catch it at that outlying station beginning at around 04:00).

Unfortunately, the at-the-airport Kempinski is ruled out by your need for a budget accomodation.

i would recommend not to go downtown.
there are economic hotels in the surrounding, most of them offer foc shuttle services.
try to google hallbergmoos, a place just "behind the airport fence", there is a moevenpick e.g. www.moevenpick-munich-airport.com

That might have been me.
I've stayed at the Comfort Hotel am Medienpark in Unterfhring.

Advanced purchase rates for a single room are as low as 60EUR.

hrs.de is a good site to look for hotel reservations

Thanks for all your replies.

BTW, I found a cheap rate at moevenpick munich airport via a different website. When I called the hotel, they will be charging me 13.5 Euro (x2 27Euros) to use their shuttle. Somehow, they don't have a complimentary shuttle service to the airport unlike the hotels in the US.

It's a common practice outside the U.S. for hotels to contract out the shuttle service to an outside operator, hence the charge.

The hotel website says that the first shuttle leaves at 05:15 - be sure to check the evening before whether they require you to sign up for that first trip of the morning.

Park Inn Munich East. Johanneskirche stop (20 minutes from the airport on the S8 line) with a three minute walk from the hotel to train station. This is a very small station and you buy your ticket on the platform at a ticket machine.

Haus zum Gutenberg is what I use for short night stays in MUC: http://www.haus-zum-gutenberg.de/preise_en.html

They will pick you up and bring you back for another 10EUR 7am to 10pm ^ Before that you need to pay for a cab. (10-12 EUR)

The Kempinski Park, Sleep & Fly package is 139 EUR now. You don't need to park, but they will ask you for proof of next day early departure when you check in.

As is customary on FT, it would be nice if you would share these additional details for the benefit of others who visit this thread. In other words, what rate and which website?

Holiday Inn Expres is 5min away from the airport, basic but modern and newly built hotel.
Room-rate is about 80 EUR (mon - fri), - 69 EUR (Weekend), continental breakfast included.
Airport shuttle is 8 EUR oneway for 2 persons.

The way to Munich and back is too long, to recommend going to the city centre.

Folks-
Rather than create another thread, I'll just hijack this one.

(BTW, I can't find anything useful in my search)

I'll be in MUC for about 24 hours. Pension Lindner, where I stayed last time, is booked. I'm looking for budget accommodations--this isn't a vacation, so there's no point in raising the cost of the MR.

Any recommendations within reasonable walking distance from Marienplatz? I'd like to keep it to < 50EU.

I stayed recently in the Cocoon Hotel in Munich (www.hotel-cocoon.de or via www.hrs.de). The hotel opened in 2008, and I found the design refreshingly different from the hotel chains. On weekends, you can stay for 49 EUR and on weekdays for 59 - 69 EUR. Breakfast (excellent!) is 9 EUR, HSIA is free in the room. The hotel is between the stops 'Sendlinger Tor' and 'Goetheplatz' - in walkable distance to the Marienplatz.

Enjoy!
