Die Koelner Seilbahn

A few questions regarding the Seilbahn...

1. Would a one day all inclusive public transportation ticket for Koeln also cover the ride on the Seilbahn, or is it a seperate ticket?

2. Is the Seilbahn within walking distance from the Hauptbahnhof, or is it better to take a strassenbahn or train?

3. Is it usually crowded, or do the lines move fairly quickly?

Currently living in Cologne, I have absolutely no idea. I know that one of the stations is right at the Claudius Therme in Cologne Deutz.

The answers to your question are interesting to me as well, I have a Flyertalk guest coming over who I know is interested in going as well.

1. No, but you will pay less when presenting a day pass.
2. It's about 20 mins walking time, but U18 runs there quite conveniently (Station: Zoo/Flora)
3. Depends on the day and the time. Weekends are a bit crowded, but usually this won't be much of a problem.

The Seilbahn is separate from normal public transport operations, so you have to buy a ticket. But you get a discount for day passes. It's quite far from Hauptbahnhof. Best is to take a tramway to Zoo/Flora stop, which is near the Seilbahn. On the other side of the river, there is only a bus. Better take the Seilbahn back (there's a discount for return tickets) and get another tram back to town.
Lines on the weekend can be bad (the Zoo and the Seilbahn are perennial favourites for single parents' "right of contact" days out with their kids). The better the weather, the worse the lines. Not much of a line on weekdays.

When I was on Kln last June, I recall the Seilbahn being a reasonable walk from Klner Dom -- the giant Gothic cathedral. I remember we parked somewhere near the cathedral, had a brief walk over to there, and then walked over to Seilbahn and hung out in the little park across the Rhine. You can walk through the park to the bank of the Rhine and skim pebbles into it, kinda cool.
