Vegetarian at a German BBQ

I am a vegetarian going to a birthday party in Germany in a few weeks. My host, love him to death, is clueless to what veggie burger offerings are available locally, though thankfully he lives near a big enough city. Does anyone know the German names, if any, for vegetarian burgers/meals so that I have something to look for once I get there? Thanks!

I feel a little bit clueless too. I would ask for a "Gemüseburger", a "Tofuburger" or simply for a "vegetarischer Burger".

You may want to refer your host to this discussion thread:

I like always the grilled Zuchini.

All this will not help him as the OP looks for "veggie burgers". I am pretty sure the OP and his host are aware that one can grill chese and vegetables...

The thing to look for, as per the thread I linked to, is "Grillplatten fr Vegetarier". This seems to be the nearest to the veggieburgers the OP is looking for.

As an aside, I've been to many BBQs in Germany but have never been served burgers of any description!

Nor have I. Many side dishes may have animal products as well, especially potato salad which is often made with beef broth.

I have to say it very honestly: I experience Germans as very intolerant and bad vegetarians.

Thanks everyone. From the looks of the linked page from Aviatrix, they have 'sausage replacements' for vegetarians, which as others pointed out will probably be more fitting than veggie burgers at a German bbq. If all else fails I will live on grilled veg, grilled cheese sandwiches, and my jar of smuggled American peanut butter
