ICE question

I am taking ICE from Hamburg to Berlin. First time travelling by ICE.

Question is how is luggage handled at ICE. Is there is separate bag check or you carry the bag with you. Any size/ limits of bag size?
Thanks.

I was on an ICE train from FRA to CGE and back last week. Everybody carried their own bags that I saw. They have some racks above the seats on both sides. Some people just kept them with them at their seat and some left their bags at the end of the seats. I didn't see anyone to give bags to. Although I was in 2nd class.

There is no baggage service on ICE trains (the only exception I know is the AirRail codeshare service with Lufthansa from Stuttgart to Frankfurt Airport).

You will have to carry your bag yourself.

Carry your own bags. We traveled on ICE trains with 2 huge backpacks without any issue at all. They always fit on the racks above the seats.

IATA size carry-on fits perfectly in the racks above. Even larger suitecases can be fitted up there but it is a little bit tricky depending how heavy it is.

If you travel on a Friday or Sunday make sure you have a seat reservation for the train you want to take.

You can also store your large suitcases between the seats. There are some seats that face back to back and you can put your luggage there with no issue. In First Class it is no problem anyway.

Next to the overhead racks there is a dedicated luggage storage space at one end of each coach.
But if you want to keep an eye on it its better to bring to your seat.
