Oktoberfest 2023
Did not see a thread yet for this years festival.
I will be there for opening weekend, as usual. Hoping for good weather.
Anyone else going?
Another price hike in beer prices - ~6%

Everyone except Weinzelt (who are serving Weizen) seems to be afraid to be the first to break the 15 barrier.

For certain foreigners 14 or 15€ for one liter of beer is considered a good deal.
The more important part is that the Wiesn is the longest possible Wiesn with a duration of 18days. It ends Tuesday October 3rd instead of Sunday.

Crazy... the beer price used to be set based on average beer prices downtown. Not anymore, I guess:
Augustiner still sells a ma for 9€ in downtown... https://www.augustiner-klosterwirt.d...arte/getraenke
Hofbru is 10.80 : https://www.hofbraeukeller.de/speisekarte
The O'fest Museum which is operated by the brewery association sells a ma for 7.80: https://www.museumsstueberl.com/Getraenke-und-Speisen/

The Museum serve is not a Ma, that's zwei Halbe.
I guess Oktoberfest wages (which have always been quite high) are through the roof this year, even more so than wages in general, as are prices for electricity and gas. And then, just as with airline tickets and hotel rooms, as long as there are enough buyers at crazy prices, you'd be mad not to ask for those prices. Some of the prices offerendum has posted on recent trip reports were nothing short of indecent, so by comparison this is all right still.

According to their website:
Beverage prices are not set by the City of Munich. However, as the organizer of the Oktoberfest, the city reviews the prices of the restaurateurs to ensure that they are reasonable. To do this, it compares the prices with those of the major gastronomic establishments in the Munich metropolitan area. For beer, these prices are currently 7.10 euros and 12.20 euros per liter of export.
Guess they determined the overhead was high enough to justify doubling the beer price?

Except for Saturday, the long range forecast for opening days looking wet, though warmer than some past visits.

The mix of cold and warm weather coupled with close contact to strangers... we all get to experience the 'wiesn flu' in early October where you really don't know if its becuase of some virus you picked up or your liver paying you back for the abuse of the past 2-3 weeks.

I am scheduled to arrive in town Friday around 3PM, staying near Ostbahnhof.
If anyone is around and would like to grab a pre-fest beer, let me know.

Wow. What an opening weekend
Weather was crazy warm. Inside of the tents was roasting mid-afternoon. As crowded as I have seen it.
Was still able to get into multiple "tents" and tables in the shade outside were very comfortable. One more day of fun, then have to say goodbye.
