Stand-alone gates at MUC?
I was looking at MUC on Google Maps (curious because I have a connection there next week) and I noticed that just to the west of terminal 1, there is a line of parking stands with jetways that seemingly are not connected to any building. The gates are numbered 142-144, 151-155 and 161-164. I'd imagine they connect to an underground walkway to T1, but can't see this on any map! I've attached an image of what I'm talking about: http://tinyurl.com/mv2efoa (where the SAA A340 is parked). Can anyone clue me in as to what these gates are used for/how they work??

What you're seeing is described in the Wikipedia article about Munich Airport:
There are further 60 aircraft stands on the apron, some of which are equipped with specially-designed apron jet bridges (German: Vorfeldfluggastbrcken), to which passengers are brought by bus. This unique concept allows passengers to board with full protection from the weather but without the high investments required for full satellite terminals connected through a passenger transport system.

are those the parking places to which one is bussed, and the" specially designed" stairways are just 30' walkups? get to carry your luggage up them. some are covered, some are not.
they are just terrific for a78 yo person with a carryon. i have never seen any assistance offered at one of these great innovations. DCA has a few of them also, and so do italian airports.
