Dusseldorf at Christmas

I am thinking of flying over to Dusseldorf to do a quick overnight in early December mainly to see the Christmas markets. I do night photography and love to catch the lights of the markets so I usually am out till they close. I am a single woman traveling by myself so I want to stay in a super safe area. Any suggestions as to which area of the city I should stay in which is pretty safe yet I can get to several of the markets? Any hotel suggestions? I am trying to make this a somewhat low budget overnight and have gobs of points to use at Hotels.com.

I consider downtown Dsseldorf as pretty safe (with the usual attention like in every city regarding pickpockets).

There is not one huge christmas market but the booth are located through several parts of old town. I would consider the one in front of city hall (Rathaus) as the main one but there are also booth located. I am not sure, if it is a nice spot to take pictures though.

If it comes to hotels, there are two IBIS hotels and one Holiday Inn (Ludwig-Erhard-Allee) close the main station with easy access to the underground, another Holiday Inn with at one end of Kningsallee, two NH Hoteles with also either easy access to public transportation or close proximity to Kningsallee.

FLYGVA is the real expert when it comes to Dsseldorf, he is correct with everything he has said.

Let me assure you that Dsseldorf is pretty safe.

Regarding night photography, there are plenty of spots outside of the Christmas markets you want to look at. The Rhine river and especially the media harbour (which also holds a Hyatt and Radisson Blu) is definitely worth a look for you.

Don't be distracted by small "christmas markets" that are all over town. (basically a few stalls here and there) The "real" ones are downtown like mentioned nearby city hall (Rathaus).

To be honest, you might think about going to Cologne since the city holds way more large Christmas markets but it would involce a train ride of approx. 35 minutes each way.

Thanks... It looks like jumping over to Dusseldorf is out for this year, but I will think about Dusseldorf more for the summer photography and just hit the markets in the UK this year...

Cologne

You are not too far from Cologne and right by the Train Station is the famous Cahtedral. Be thinking about taking sites there too.
