I had no idea that an American accent would be considered cute. Of course, I can't really hear American accents.

It is always amusing to watch British TV shows with American characters. They have to be played by British actors and their efforts to sound American give a slight indication of what an American accent sounds like to British listeners.

OTOH, when I speak English in Europe, I am sometimes taken for a Czech.
