Walk-up Bahn Tickets

I am going to be going from Dresden to Erfurt in December but I'm not sure what days I want to go. Is there a benefit to buying in advance? I notice there are slight discounts for early booking, but are the walk-up prices inflated?

Advance booking fares for the route start at EUR 19.00. Walk-up fares range from EUR 41.50 to EUR 49.00

If the cheaper advance booking fares have gone, and you're looking at an advance booking fare of something like EUR 39.00 then you might as well pay that little bit extra for having some flexibility.

Thank you for the reply.

I guess the EUR 19.00 fare is not available on the dates I am looking. Paying EUR 49.00 will be alright if it allows me to choose when I go closer in to my dates.

If you travel on local/regional trains, which will take a bit longer but should be doable on that route, you can use a Sachsen-Ticket for 21 . This ticket covers the three federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, hence is valid for the whole trip. This ticket can be bought on the spot. The only restriction to be aware of: on weekdays it is valid after 9 a.m.

Look up train connections on www.bahn.com and tick "local transport".
