Cologne-2 days recommendations??
We are six seniors who will be in Cologne in mid-December at the conclusion of a Christmas Markets cruise.
We have chosen to extend our stay in Cologne by 2 days.
Could someone suggest some "must see" or "must do" activities and restaurants/beer halls?
We enjoy sightseeing with an emphasis on historic architecture, museums, shopping, and local restaurant faire.
We will certainly see the Dom and Christmas Markets as part of the cruise activity so this request would be for additive sights.
We are staying at the Dorint Hotel on Pippinstrasse (formerly the Intercontinental).

I think the just strolling around in Cologne will take easily 1.5 days and if I had some free time, I'd go to Haus der Geschichte in Bonn.
The Haus der Geschichte as part of the Museumsmeile always unfolds nem pages of Germany's recent past.
Approximately 7,000 original exhibits ranging from a railway saloon car of the federal chancellors to an original cinema from the 1950s up to parts of the Berlin wall, Honecker’s warrant of arrest and the first Green Card for a foreign IT specialist are displayed here. Historical film and tonal documents, as well as numerous media stations invite the young and the old for an active deal with their own history.
About one million visitors come to see the various exhibitions of the Haus der Geshichte (House of History) per year.
Free admission!

I'd suggest these as being quite good and quite interesting:
I was underwhelmed by the chocolate museum, though it is pretty good for kids. With under two days you'll not have any problems finding more than enough interesting things to see and do. For pub/beer hall food, Frh is both good and centrally located.

I thought that the Chocolate museum was very enjoyable and there is a huge selection of chocolates in the shop at the end of the museum.
There is a museum that contain a lot of Roman artifacts (I am a Roman history buff) and you can walk in the old Roman sewers in Cologne.
There are plenty of Christmas markets to choose from - enjoy them all.
Here's a tip for the Christmas markets - when you buy gluwein or beer at the market, it comes in a commemorative mug/glass. You can keep the glass or mug if you want but if you return it you will get some money back. Some people collect the mugs/glasses but I have enough.

Have a dinner at Brewery Malzmuehle at Heumarkt. It is a typical Klsch Restaurant with typical food from the Rhineland.
