I really hope it's not too bad late November!! I'd hate to stand for 4 hours!
After the suggestion on the international ticket, i'm thinking of visiting basel or Vienna as a day trip for one of my weekend days. Are either city good to visit on a sunday at all?

Vienna is one of my favorite cities hands-down. However, the train ride from Munich to Vienna (and Basel) is about 5 hours each way. I'm not sure about making either one of those cities a "day trip". If so, then I would recommend doing a day trip to Innsbruck. The journey from Munich is quite scenic (through the Alps) and much shorter.
