Pool redemption first earned first redeemed
I thought the pool thing was cool until I realized it doesn't reset others expiration. That was fine but then when I was about to redeem some miles because my mother's were expiring I noticed this in the terms:
https://www.flyfrontier.com/myfronti...899.1547338869
H. Upon joining a pool, individuals understand that miles are redeemed on a first earned/first redeemed and is based on the entire pools transactions.
As this reads, if I redeem miles from my pool, my mothers miles that expire soon won't be burned. Instead, my miles that aren't expiring bc I fly frequently with them will because I earned them earlier than she did.
I just logged into her account and booked a 10K reward because she has like 16K expiring. For sure 10K of those were used up.
Now, I'm thinking I won't burn the "pool" miles because my non expiring ones are going to get burned instead.
Just a FYI for anyone in a pool.
I should have researched this more thoroughly so I could have burned her remaining miles on magazines. FYI on that, it says redemption takes up to several weeks, and your miles can expire before the magmiles place tries to redeem. In other words, your miles don't get instantly redeemed when you go the magazine route. That's according to the terms there.

Take another look at your mothers account. I also have a family pool setup as the head and the others I have in my pool have been getting expiration extension transactions based upon my activity. Don't see anything in the FAQ or Terms and Conditions about it though.

Frontier really should be less aggressive with the expirations and promote the FF program as a major selling point, given what the legacy airlines have been doing to theirs. DL in particular is becoming a much worse value on redemptions, especially if they have basic economy as the basis for the lowest tier awards. Your $250 bargain transcon flight in BE might get 1K RDMs on DL for most people (taxes don't count on the 5X) and redemptions are opaque because of no chart, but realistically will go from 12-13K RT for a non-stop short haul to 31-39K for a transcon at a non-busy time, all in BE (so they make you pay for luggage). F9 is charge-for-everything including luggage but might well be 20K rather than 40K on the transcon award and better on the earn side, etc.
FF programs have been such a longtime advantage of legacies used against LCCs and ULCCs that maybe the LCCs/ULCCs don't realize the opportunity to turn the tables now. I get what they're trying to do with this pooling concept and trying to attract families in general, but unfortunately I think they'll create a lot of confusion with it. It also doesn't mix well with the aggressive expiration.

I logged into my mother's account and it looks like miles didn't expire on April 26 as they were set to do. I flew on April 29 and on April 30, there was a transaction that posted:
FPE Extension: Head of Pool:
I posted this follow up so others are aware that the pool members miles do get extended. This is what I thought would be how it worked or otherwise you have to fly all pool members every six months or keep losing your pooled miles.
They should advertise these extensions as a benefit. Instead the terms say:
K.Individuals miles may still expire based on their last accrual and not the accrual of the entire pool.
I realize it says "may" but why not advertise be that head activity does currently seem to extend the miles.
Had I known this, I wouldnt have made my redemptions. Oh by well, I guess I still got value out of the 10k miles though not maximized value.
Also, it looks like my magazine miles redemption posted 4/26. It says 1700 deducted April 26. I actually made several.magazine redemptions but they only processed the first. I'll actual be happy if they don't process the rest.
5k miles remain as I redeemed 10k for a flight and 1700 for magazine posted.
Edit: the head of pool extension must have been implemented after January as she didn't get that transaction posted for my two January flights.

Actual I looked again. My earlier flights posted:
Standard Accrual: (FRONTIERMISC)
Head of Pool
I took out reference #'s but what's different is April 30 one say "extension".
Again, the miles apparently get renewed by head activity. That her unredeemed Miles are still alive show it worked. Their software is goofy. Miles didn't expire but expiration date showed it was supposed to expire 6 months after her last night and these transactions appeared as well:
Adjustment: MEMBER NOTIFICATION (NTF) - Agent ID: 169 (20 DAY EXPIRATION NOTICE SENT ON
Again, those notifications showed up and expiration date showed expiration but head activity kept them.alive.

I don't get how pool expiration works.
As I stated months ago, I extended my mother's pooliles with my activity.
Today, I noticed she had 0 miles. I logged into her account and 14k expired Jan 4 2020 so I guesy 5 trips Oct-Dec didn't refresh her expiration.
It looks like May 3 was last time my activity refreshed her expiration.
The terms say:
K. Individuals miles may still expire based on their last accrual and not the accrual of the entire pool.
That's just annoying as activity from Head of Pool (me)refreshed expiration and previously and then it just stopped.. She was given notice of expiration before but none this time.
beware if you are counting on head of pool activity to refresh miles!
