Checked bags question
I have checked baggage questions regarding size.
Last year my suitcase flew to Tacoma via Delta Airlines with a friend and returned to Detroit via United Airlines with me. I did not measure the suitcase because my friend had to bring it with him when he flew out to visit me (long dull story).
I'm flying to Sea-Tac again via Frontier Airlines on the 23rd. My husband measured the suitcase and it turns out to be 64 inches which is 2 inches over the allowed size.
First question, did the airlines reduce the size limit during the past year?
Second question, if not, does it really matter that the suitcase is over by 2 inches? Are the airlines measuring the bags carefully? I don't recall my bags being measured, only weighed.
I'm thinking of packing this suitcase as well as another of the same size and also bringing along 2 much smaller bags in case they charge me for the oversize to switch with. I don't own anything that is just a bit smaller than the 64 inch suitcases.
I'm going to be in Tacoma for almost 4 months so I'm paying the checked bag fees. I can have my bags carefully packed in order to cull what is not necessary to take to Tacoma so that I can use the smaller bags.
I would like to bring the biggest bags possible so I won't have to buy items in Tacoma. In other words I'd like to get the biggest bang for my dollar.
What do you wise and frequent fliers say?
Thanks

All three airlines Frontier, United and Delta have the same basic size 62", I doubt they've all reduced it over the last year.
I suppose technically you would be in violation on all three and liable for an oversize bag charge.
I haven't noticed Frontier being especially picky and checking every single bag.
Remember Frontier charges a bag fee for each bag (including carry-ons) so it would be less expensive to have only one bag.
