Restricted Fare

I had bought a restricted fare (non-refundable) ticket on Frontier Airlines last December. The flights were delayed during the Winter Storm, and Frontier agreed to cancel my itinerary, but not refund the fare for no service fee. They said that I should be able to use the funds for a future travel until a year from original purchase. I was wondering if I would be able to use these funds only on a Frontier Airlines ticket, or I could use it on Air Tran (mileage partner) ticket as well? The main reason for this is because I would like to fly to a city that is serviced by Air Tran, but not by Frontier Airlines.

TIA

Unlikely

While Frontier has established a Frequent Flier partnership with Airtran (earn/redeem miles and credits on each other's flights), they have not put in place any code-share agreements (sell tickets on each other's flights, I.E. Frontier 123 operated by Airtran as flight 456). Their websites do show each other's cities as from/to destinations, but they simple point you to purchase your tickets on the other website.

Do you actually have to travel within one year? Make sure that they don't mean you have to re-ticket within a year, which would mean you can actually book travel another year out.

You may wish to check with Frontier and see if anything can be done to extend your credit. IMHO, one of the many benefits of this airline is that their telephone CS folks are generally friendly, upbeat, and knowlegable.

Last but not least, you might think about trying to sell the credit to friends/family or even post it on E-Bay or CL. I know this is strictly forbidden for Frequent Flier miles, but I'm not aware of any restrictions on selling travel credit. Anyone who knows otherwise can please correct me.

Good luck!
