Airshow

I was wondering is Airshow Free on F9(Channel 13)? How does Airshow work if I have not paid for Direct Tv? Also does Airshow show thoes crazy ads or does it show the regular map, time to destination, local time at destination, ground speed, air speed etc?

Does Airshow work on the ground? I was on an El Al flight and Airshow worked the enitre flight. Does Frontier have cameras that come on during take off and landing?

Any other info on Airshow would be greatly aprpeciated? There are very few airlines that use Airshow on their domestic routes. I wish Airshow would be available on all new aircrafts.

The last time I flew F9 about a year ago, Airshow was free. It did have the commercials.

As long as the DirecTV service is operating (which it should), you will have access to the live map. It is free and all you need to do is set your channel to 13 and watch away. There are advertisements in between the different maps (maps to include the entire country and region in which you are flying over -- southwest, northeast, etc.). It will also tell you your altitude and air speed. Unfortunately no cameras so you can view the takeoff/landing.

Airshow on the ground

What does the Airhow Map show on the ground? Does it show the distance to destination etc? Why are there ads for Airshow? I think it should be ad free for thoes that pay the $5 dollars for Airshow. How do they show the safety video? Does it appear on the PTV's? I'm assuming this is the eaisest way to do it.

Also how does one program airshow to show their own hometown on a private jet? Is there a way to add your college, home and other cool destinations as you fly over them?

Thanks.

Flight attendents provide the "old fashioned" safety demonstration and speech. It isn't a video that is run through the TV screens.

It isn't very feasible to have two variations of the Airshow, one for those who pay the $5, and one for those who don't pay the $5. Also, the ads only run in between the two maps (larger/zoomed out map and smaller/zoomed in map). So a 20-30 second pause really isn't that big of a deal.

When on the ground, you are pretty much told your airspeed and altitude (field elevation).

Same like on EL Al 747-400

I was on an El Al 747-400 from TLV-JFK and the airshow works exactly the same it worked on the ground and showed the airspeed on the ground. It laso showed a short ad. Did not really hurt the Airshow.
