At last some competition to Tucson. With only UA doing DEN-TUS the fares were often outrageous.

Rockdoc: It will be interesting to see what happens with TUS fares. DEN-PHX fares have remained high for the last few years despite the fact that HP, UA and F9 all offer a lot of service on the route. Most of the time it's cheaper to fly to either coast from DEN than to PHX.

Yes PHX is usually a rather expensive ticket for the miles actually flown, but PHX has been light years less expensive than flying into TUS. I could hardly ever find a fare into TUS for less than $500.00 between October and April. With some work I could find $300.00 fares into PHX during the same time frame. And PHX typically did not require a Sat. night stay. No Sat. night into TUS was commonly $800-$1000. Needless to say, I have driven Phoenix-Tucson more times than I care to remember lately.

I have too, Rockdoc. Judging by the traffic going down the Ten, we are not alone!

The high fares is what is attracting Frontier! They're pulling out of Boston because of its low yields and coming to Tucson.

The charge to any hub airport like Denver is very high from nearly any city....we all suffer the same.....

Also, checked the sites and Tucson-Denver is only $209 on an advance purchase fare....

Frontier has already forced UA to SIGNIFICANTLY lower fares. I find early November flights without a Sat. night stay for $227. I can tell you that 10 days ago they were nowhere near that low. I have flown this route for years and in the past five years have never paid less than $300 for a DEN-TUS fare. Often a lot more......
