I was there last year on Christmas, and shops were closed, as were most, though mercifully not all, restaurants. As I recall, Dec 26 is a normal day there, but it IS a Sunday this year, so most shops will NOT be open. I'm not sure what impact Dec 25 being a Saturday will have on Dec 27; I'm sure other FTers will have more knowledge of this.

We went there for 3 or 4 days after x-mas a couple of years back. We planned and spent most of our time inside at the great museums of Paris. The lines were mercifully short / the weather was crisp but luckily it didn't rain / and we had a fab time.

Hi, all,
I've got an AA itinerary on hold that will have me in Paris the same days. So if anyone has any word on the likelihood of shopping on December 27th, that would make or break my trip. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's good news for both of us, newcx12345!)
Thanks!

It's too bad the sales in Paris department stores and boutiques don't begin until mid-January. I'm going to Paris for New Year's weekend.
In France, stores can only mark down prices during two specific time period during the year. The next one will start January 7 and will last about 6 weeks.

I assume Parisians must appreciate their sales more than we do, though, considering they're so regulated.

Good information. I knew it was January and June, but not how long they last or exactly when they start. Is there a good way to find out the dates for each year?

Greetings fellow FTers
I gather from the posts in this thread that most stores and restaurants will be closed on Chritmas Day, correct (what about Xmas Eve)? I'm asking because I will be in Paris with my wife and 3 daughters Decemebr 23rd to 27th. So, I'm hoping there will be places to go visit and not be stuck in the hotel.
Will some of the famous sites (i.e. lourves, notre dame, paris opera house, eiffel tower, etc.) be open?
I'm wondering if someone might have a weblink that they could post with general info, I looked o nthe paris links thread and really didn't see anything.
Thanks for any information

And it wasn't just the cheap stuff that qualified for the "rabais": Armani Collezioni, Hugo Boss, D&G, Jean Paul Gaultier, etc.
So I inquired if the an American could take advantage of the "rabais." The salespeople replied "Dsol, juste pour franais."

It's too bad because I was in the market for a suit and they had Armani Collezioni suits for only 550!

To all interested:
Les Brasseries Flo are all open Dec 24th-25th-26th. They have a common carte for Christmas and New Year, I have a copy for those who wish to receive it.
http://www.flobrasseries.com/
Other Restaurant open: Le Bistrot des Deux Thtres, Rue Blanche in Paris.
As for Dec. 27th, expect quite a run in all the shops as it will be the day where many people bring back presents they received and don't like and wish to exchange...
The metro runs normally at Christmas accordng to the RATP. Last train as usual, around 00'30 hours.
Dec 31st-January 1st: Metro 1,2,4,6,9,14 will run the whole night as well as RER A&B. They warned me that they would post something on their web sites during December.

What's open
For those in Paris around Christmas - I believe the Eiffel tower is open on Christmas day but the museums are closed. I would assume that Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur would be open?? Here are a few direct web sites that I checked:
