First Trip

At the end of July, I am taking my first trip to Paris. We are staying at the Hyatt Park Vendome. While I am sure that everyone on this site has great information about Paris (which I'd welcome), I was wondering if anyone had favorite websites about travelling, sightseeing, and eating in Paris. Thanks in advance!

I really like this website for information about Paris restaurants, menus, restaurant reviews and just about anything having to do with food and Paris.

Enjoy your first trip to Paris.

I really like the site Bonjour Paris. There is so much information on every aspect of France and its culture, plus discussion boards. Enjoy your trip.

I greatly prefer guide books to websites to study a place.

Buy a copy of Access guide to Paris, and get a copy of Fodor's out of the library. Actually, get a lot of guide books out of the library.

Get a museum card(carte orange?) It is worth having to avoid the purchase lines at most of the museums.

Buy a phone card at the Tobac. Buy a Carnet there at the same time.

Use the services of the concierge. Have him call for restaurant reservations for you.

For food, buy a Zagat Guide.

If you want to miss the museum lines, as Slawecki advises, get the passes in advance. "Back door" immediate entry, even for the Louvre. Do not get in any lines!

The metro pass is handy also. If your trip starts on a Monday, the Carte Orange is your best bet for the Metro.
(You'll need a passport size photo, and a note describing what you want to buy--unless you are fluent in French) These sites explain it. http://www.gisparis.com/paris/paris_subway.htm

I highly recommend the Paris Walking tours, especially the Montmartre one and Hemmingway's Paris on Mouffetard St. Both Marais tours are nice. These are very similar to the London Walks. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pariswalking/

p.s. Don't worry about cashing in your Euro's when leaving. You WILL be going back, so save the change fees.
