To answer my own question! When I passed through on Sunday evening it was a manned desk and the normal check and stamp, though the border control area had rows of as yet non-operational passport readers.

To update at ORY as I passed through again on Wednesday.
The electronic readers still not operational but I got to the manned desk with only one person in-front of me and this time got my fingerprints and face scan done for future arrivals, the process took approx 2mins flat, was very impressed after reading about the potential horror stories.
