Follow up from my trip. I took the Taxi as recommended from CDG to Hilton Opera and the cost as advised was 53 Euros. I took Uber back yesterday and the cost was 47 euros. No problem on either end.

No one knows what Uber costs until you bring up the trip when you’re ready to go. I doubt you will often find a 36€ fare from CDG to mid-Paris on an early weekday morning.

I used to love Uber in Paris but several trips over the last month have me soured. Out of the way, indirect routing, sometimes due to lack of access to taxi lanes and sometimes for no apparent reason, turn 12€ trips into 25€ trips.

I came into CDG 2C earlier this week. The Uber pick up area was in the short term parking garage on level -2. I took an elevator down and waited by aisles I&J. The information didn't seem to have been transmitted to my driver because he kept asking where I was and he seemed to be on the arrival level until I mentioned I was in the garage.

This is a very frequent problem in many airports around the world : Uber app is telling you a pickup location and the drivers want somewhere else more convenient.

I've had ok experiences with Uber at CDG. I speak French which perhaps helps, but I've found the drivers quite helpful. I took one last summer during a strike action which blocked all taxis and Ubers from the arrivals area. My Uber driver contacted me through the app and suggested meeting upstairs at the drop off area. Worked perfectly. I left all the people waiting for taxis downstairs.

Then there is the fact that I'm in the Uber rewards program, usually at Platinum level and sometimes Diamond. So I'm a bit locked in.
