You are correct in assuming that in France May 1 is a national holiday, and the fact that it falls on a Sunday this year means 1) we're all getting the short end of the stick for time off, and 2) that even fewer things will be open than normal that day. As for specific impact in Lyon, I'm not qualified to answer that question.

As a visitor I guess I can say that I got lucky with May 1 falling on a Sunday since it only knocks one day out of the box
