PLEASE READ: FlyerTalk Cares! Guidelines for Posting Here
Welcome to the FlyerTalk Cares! Forum
FlyerTalk members take advantage of earning, maximizing and using miles and points — but generously giving back is also second-nature.
The FlyerTalk Cares! Forum is designed to channel that generosity in directions that strengthen our global community to help make the planet a better place for all.
The following is a small sampling of the initiatives discussed in the FlyerTalk Cares! Forum, including but not limited to:
This new Forum has been established to encourage the charitable involvement by FlyerTalkers and to allow members to easily ask for support for causes meaningful to them. You can begin a thread if you have 180 posts and 180 days on FlyerTalk. Your charity should be one that you personally support, either with time or money. Walk for the Cure is an example; so is Habitat for Humanity. The charity must be approved as tax exempt within your country. These include the US Internal Revenue Service as 501(c)(3), and charities registered with the UK Charities Commission or ATO.
Unless specifically noted, FlyerTalk does not endorse the charities listed. Members and readers of FlyerTalk are responsible for their own investigation before making any commitment to any charity listed. There are resources that members might want to check before contributing. These include Better Business Bureau, Charity Navigator, Charity Watch or Guidestar. Some projects may accept donations of miles or points – and FTers are clever at figuring how they can give and earn miles / points!
We do not allow requests for personal fund raising endeavors such as GoFundMe, commercial endeavors of any kind, mutual benefit organizations (such as Prosper.com) that provide interest on loans, those that offer incentives for recruiting or joining, those that spend over 33% of funds raised (CTRAD / Cost To Raise A Dollar exceeds 33 cents) on administrative functions. We do not permit political giving nor asking for contributions to groups that promote hate or discriminatory actions. Neither do we allow religious giving that restricts donations to their own members.
Only one thread per charity will generally be allowed. We encourage you to use your signature to link to your thread so that no matter where you post, folks will be able to learn about the cause that is near to your heart.
