OWE travelling Finnair Economy Light [merged thread]
On a Finnair Economy Light (seems this is like BA's HBO (Hand Baggage Only) fare, where there's no allowance of checked baggage) does OneWorld Emeralds get extra checked bag?
For Finnair Platinum (also OWE) it's indicated: You’re entitled to one extra bag (max. 23 kg (50 lb) when travelling on Finnair flights (AY code on the ticket and flight operated by Finnair or Norra), regardless of travel class. Unsure if this policy applies to Finnair Platinum travelling Economy Light? If so does it similarly extend to other OWEs?

*Allowance is 23kg/50lbs but the heavy charged is waived for J or OWE.

Really? Great if free checked bag applies to even Economy Light fare for OWE.
From experience, BA’s HBO fare doesn’t include a checked luggage, and OWE extra bag benefit doesn’t apply to this fare category.

Interestingly, the wording for OWE/OWS has changed to:
(bolding is mine)
Does this imply only Finnair+ members get the additional bag? Sounds like a pretty serious enhancement if it's not just a typo.

Official response from their twitter account below, think you are still entitled a free checked in bag as OWE/OWS as per before
Hello , You can find this information in the table below: https://www.finnair.com/en/oneworld-...s-and-benefits
Also on the web of One World: https://www.oneworld.com/travel-benefits#benefits
***Extra baggage allowance for Sapphire frequent flyers
Kind regards, Lina / Finnair

Thanks, I've checked in luggage on light fares before with OW status.
The website was much clearer and explicit that OW status got free checked luggage, not sure why they changed the wording on website.
For further confirmation, I just had a quick web chat :

I have flown AY many times over the past several months and most recently yesterday. I had no problems checking in a bag on a Light Economy Fare as a BA Gold/OW Emerald. Earlier in the month I had a traveling companion on same booking (no status) also eligible to check in a bag.

But if the flight is quite full, they allow to check-in hand luggage for free. Often already a few days in advance AY adds one additional checked baggage allowance. So no need to do it at the gate, you can do it already at the check-in counter.
