Possible baggage allowance decrease on AY upgraded tickets
Be Aware: All in silence AY has downgraded upgrade benefits. Now Asia-Europe upgrade from economy to business class with points or voucher allows only 3 luggages.
Baggage calculator https://www.finnair.com/fi/fi/inform...age-calculator shows for Platinum member Asia-Europe 4 bags and AY site has still 4 bags https://www.finnair.com/fi-en/baggag...hecked-baggage but these are not reliable. This rule is only mentioned in upgrade rules. No additional info sent to customers. So AY¨s upgrade is not a real upgrade anymore. :td: |
Do you have a link to the new upgrade rules? It was always a little unclear since the booking showed a different allowance then the calculator.
|
Rules are here:
https://www.finnair.com/fi-en/info/b...and-conditions One extra piece of checked baggage (max. 32 kg) |
Are you sure this isn't just marketing trying to make the offer "clear" and have misunderstood how bag allowance is calculated?
Is it confirmed by a ticket or a CS rep? |
CS confirmed this when I was again wondering why App shows 3 bags ( Value+Plat+Upgrade) and CS told rules changed earlier this year. App is right and calcultator can not show upgraded business ticket.
|
And one Gold member today got two answers:
Answer 1 from AY CS was 3 bags. Answer 2 from AY CS was 4 bags and 4th bag is due to Gold card. |
Who travels with 4 bags? This isn't a downgrade unless you have a job (musician, photographer, etc) that requires a lot of baggage, and then paying for a fourth bag shouldn't be much of an issue.
|
Very poor.
I guess this opens up for removing more stuff from the upgraded ticket in the future as it no longer is a full J ticket. Bags clearly are the primary target as this makes easy ancillary revenue. But if opportunity comes to cash in on other perks, one can easily see how they would want to decouple more perks. |

I think it is so good to have a drive-by poster telling us we don't need the allowance and so there is no loss in having the airline we've been loyal to for decades removing perks from the offer.
Well, I've been called many things in my life, but never a musician... |

Finnair’s allowance has always been very generous. Over 100kg with business ticket + status. In comparison EK’s First allowance is 50kg.
I’ve travelled many times with four pieces. Once a needed a taxi for myself, and another one for the luggage. Also had a decent size safety deposit box in my rimowa (don’t ask!). And for Delhi brought my own water for the whole week. |
Moving kid to uni meant taking all allowance - while her friend took only 1 bag of 23 kg, ours showed up with 4x32kg + sports equipment bag. (Had to decline the nice rental upgrade from estate to sports, but luckily they found an E-class estate that fit all our stuff) So it does happen, even though usually it's a roll aboard Rimowa only for me.
