Once a needed a taxi for myself, and another one for the luggage. Also had a decent size safety deposit box in my rimowa (don’t ask!).

Reading the title I thought someone is sending out phishing emails, promising phoney upgrades, or something :D

Although this doesn't affect me personally that much (as JPN tickets technically always worked like this due to large Y allowance), this is alarming as a principle. Will AY now move toward unbundled business fares? Are we going to see I fares with less allowance, U fares with no lounge access or chargeable seat selection next? The "pay 1000€ to sit in J with Y service" was bad enough already.
Also, upgraded EU light ticket now shows allowance of 1 in the app (as plat). Wondering what that's all about... |
This might be also because of Light tickets (to NA).
But does the new rule mean, that an upgraded European Pro ticket gets 3 bags included while in J you get only 2? |
I (plat) just had a value tix BKK-HEL-LHR both legs upgraded, LH with a voucher, SH with points. App said that BKK-HEL (voucher upgrade) had 3 bags and HEL-LHR had 4 bags and as I inquired this from the CS they told me it's a bug and they'll fix it directly in my booking. (They never did, but I didn't need it anyway so I didn't inquire further.)

I have an upcoming NA cartel light ticket upgraded to U showing 3PC in App - according to this rule should be only 2PC.

From Finnair dictionary:
Weakening benefits = simplify CS reply this mornng: Matkatavaramäärä on haluttu selkeyttää korotustilanteissa. Nykyään korotuksen myötä saa yhden lisämatkatavaran ruumaan eikä siinä päde ostetun bisneslipun matkatavarakiintiö |

Finnair’s allowance has always been very generous. Over 100kg with business ticket + status. In comparison EK’s First allowance is 50kg.
... Do note that AY allowance is piece-concept and ME carriers are mostly weight concept. So the "over 100kg" moniker is true if travelling with 4x 32KG. The generosity comes from both allowing +1PC for tier members, having 3PC base allowance on some destinations (n.b. not all!) and at the same time voiding heavy/large bag fee for plats. So that how you end up at over 100kg. For example, if the rule was "void heavy bag fee for 1 bag" then it would be much less generous. OTOH, on QR I can check in 8 bags each weighing 10kg and they would still be smiling. ;) |
My booking in the app also only shows 3 pieces - sucks. But it´s all weired, my confirmation letter for this upgraded flight (U class) shows only 1PC (which I haven t seen when it came in), while my last real C booking showed the allowance of 3PC. So I now get two extra bags as a benefit - while I only get one when I was flying on a C booking.
Anyhow this will result in six 32KGs bags instead of eight bags over 25KGs. But still, at least they could communicate the in a correct way - not only just changing the numbers on your confirmation letter. |
