HNA coming to Helsinki?!

Slightly OT, but Routes Online believes that Hainan's subsidiary Beijing Capital Airlines plans PEK-HEL before the end of the year, following HGH-CPH and PEK-CPH. Charter only though:

I was under the impression that the Finnair flights to PEK were not that full (dunno about SK ex-CPH and CA ex-ARN). I wonder if there is that much demand really.

Even the plans are for just one weekly flight, nothing much to write home about.

I don't know the load factor to PEK, but judging from the extreme scarce upgrade availability on the route (on average 0,1 daily seats available) I'd say AY is selling extremely well on HEL-PEK.

No other route in AY network offers this little upgrade space.

So three years later, it might actually happen:

A330 thrice weekly:
JD407 PEK 02:30 – 07:10 HEL
JD408 HEL 11:10 – 01:05(+1) PEK
(Also same frequency and similar schedule for PEK-CPH.)

So I guess they won't beat Qatar Airways time record from announcement to opening?

I think the arrival time at PEK is actually quite good. I don't like night flights because I seldom sleep well, if at all, on planes. Considering that you will be arriving in the evening Finnish time, the arrival time is perfect for a transfer to your hotel, with no traffic jams at that hour, and a good night's sleep that will help you compete jetlag.

But the departure time ex-PEK is pure horror, checking out at noon etc. However, if you're PEK-based as their pax probably mostly will be, then it might not be that bad. Full day at work, fly at night and arrive at HEL early in the morning, ready to follow that umbrella sticking up in the middle of Senate Square. Don't forget your cameras!
vulle and Clydez like this.
