Just an update on our itinerary for the NKG trip: my friend and I will stay for the first night in Nanjing (Crowne Plaza Nanjing), three following nights in le Royal Meridien in Shanghai and the last night in the Pullman NKG airport hotel. I trust we'll get some rail-travel related advice from the more experienced travelers along the way.

Edit: we'll follow cistavoda and start our trip from the Jingling hotel.

I just booked the NKG Pullman for the last night as well. First two nights in Jinling Hotel Nanjing, then off to countryside (Yixing).

Why not save hotel money and go back to HEL 2-3 times?

If the visa allows it, why not take a side trip to HKG or KUL, or both? Those seem to be the only OW options out of NKG.

Perhaps all the needed 150 segments are already booked and this would fall in to the world of mass tourism.

Headless running is one thing, continueing after the finish line and you'll start losing other body parts too.. 😁

So... we are 9 on the list for inaugural AY105 on sunday. Seatmap has 27 seats taken but J is sold out. So full cabin and elite heavy too. And maybe some "social media influencers" free-loading. I wonder how plat recognition will be.... I'd love 10 plats going DYKWIA because "your first food choice wasn't available"

Maybe a few hours in the "premium" lounge to give us the recognition we deserve! Does anyone need guesting? I'll be there around 15:00.

Sorry for a quick OT: Is it normally possible to buy a J ticket without a seat allocation? Or what would be a typical reason for having a J booking without an allocated seat?

Yes, bookings made through some channels seems to be made without a specific seat selection. I guess an agent must actively choose a seat for the selection to be made.
For instance, I recently received a award booking made by Finnair customer service without seat allocations.
I think I've also had revenue bookings made through OTA without a seat selection, but I have no specific example.

I have the same understanding, but no facts. I was once flying to PEK and the J seatmap had 10+ seats "free" even though the flight was J0 C0 J0 I0 @T-36hrs. Those seats where then taken by a group of elderly tourists clearly traveling as a group, including a guide taking care of them. I assume they had a group booking but no seat reservations booked into Amadeus. That was very obvious case, more difficult to judge when you have individual seats/pax.

This is the situation when there are good odds for opup. J0 C0 D0 I0, only a few seats taken in J and almost all seats taken in Y @T-36 to T-8.
