Which looks like a total knock-off of flyertalk.

I have confidence that Matt will run some great forums as Scott will. The concept of travel hacking forums isn't original to either of them, so I fail to see your point.

Interesting side note... If I said the DP mileage run blog was a total rip off of the FT mileage run forum on the DP blog, I wonder if that comment would have gotten through the firewall...

Just with a quick skim of the site, one thing it seems to have is a more restricted area for Mfg Spending and "Trick It" type stuff. I'll check it out more later on...

I don't think it's fair to call the Saverocity forums a "total knock-off" of the Travel Codex forums. Travel Codex has a ton of region-specific sub-forums for trip reports, while Saverocity has only one. Saverocity has more sub-forums for personal finance related topics, while Travel Codex doesn't have any personal finance areas.

Both appear to have some good discussions and while they may overlap each other (and FlyerTalk) to some degree, both forums seem to reflect the focus of their respective creators.

Could you be more specific on what aspect(s) you think are "a total knock-off"? I'm not sure I see it, other than the fact they both use XenForo which is meaningless.

Great point!

I wanted to make it the same platform as Travel Codex because I thought we were both on very similar paths, and Tahsir beat me to the punch on rolling it out.

I felt that it would be an easier user experience to have xenforo for my forum rather than make people relearn another technology. FWIW Milepoint beat both of us to the punch

Now, content wise, I see a very big difference. Because we are very different people with very different goals... perhaps... though I am yet to get plastered with Scott, Tahsir and Amol and imagine if I do we will all be very much on the same page

By removing the technology boundary and joining the Xenforo platform I hope that we can skip right to the good stuff - solid content.

That takes a bit longer to decide upon, as it goes beyond the bones of the platform.

... and its the toughest threshold to cross. MP didn't fail in using the right platform and in creating the right atmosphere, it failed not generating the usable content that holds an audience @:-)

Did it fail? I had no idea... I am not a member there, but looking at it there seem to be a few threads?

I wouldn't stick a fork in it quite yet but the trends and numbers are not what I'd want to see were I running the show. And that's not because it is smaller than FT, but because the trends mostly show a shrinking user base and shrinking usage overall last I saw.

Gosh, I haven't been following it much lately, but checking out the US Airways subforum, new posts are few and far between... although I suppose the same could be said for US Airways postings on this board.

Now, if we were talking about "tricks" or "CC deals," or even better yet MS...well, those of us who have been around a bit, see how things can deteriorate on even established boards.

So, maybe some of the newer forums could just possibly offer some fresh air...

Since both launched around the same time, wonder how many participate in both?
