EVA sponsoring mileage upgrade?
Do the miles for upgrade an EVA ticket have to come out of the account of one of the ticket holders, or can one sponsor an upgrade? For example, we have some relatives with sufficient miles to upgrade an upcoming itinerary, so wondering if they can make the request directly from their account or whether we need to transfer the miles into our account before requesting. Thanks for insights.

Only the passenger can request the mileage upgrade from his/her account, no sponsor. You need to transfer the miles into the ticket holder's account. Make sure you transfer from a single account the exact mileage needed for the upgrade, since its not combinable with the recipient's mileage. You may return the miles if not used.

A child with his own seat may require upgrade request from his own account. A lap-infant normally need EVA ticketing involvement since upgrade on lap-infant fare is not straight forward.
