Malta to Tunis?

My friend and I have a 3 day weekend in October and would like to to fly from LHR to MLA (Malta). We'd like to spend a day in Tunis as well, but I'm unable to find any convenient options to make the trip. Malta Air doesn't service this route frequently and there are no ferries from Malta direct to Tunis.

Any help would be appreciated!

Getting to and from Malta can be a pain, and can involve major detours. I was there for a conference a couple of months ago, and one of the delegates came from Crete - straight across the water - and he had to fly all the way to Milan and back down again.

Getting to Tunis... your best bet may be to travel by ferry via Sicily:

This site

http://www.directferries.co.uk/tunis_ferry.htm

lists ferries from Sicily to Tunis.

I know there are ferries between Malta and Sicily as I saw them being advertised when I was in Malta, but I don't have any details.

Alitalia via FCO would be the only half-reasonable option.

Given the limited amount of time and the inconvenience, I'd suggest going to Tunis another time. There's enough to do in Malta to keep you occupied for far longer than a 3 day weekend.

Indeed. Ferry to Sicily then another to Tunis would take forever.

I agree. Similarly, it would not make much sense to go to Tunis just for a day.

Air Malta (KM) serves the route twice weekly non-stop ...

Departure : Malta to Tunis
Flight Number
KM 680 thursday Dep:05:45 Arr:05:50 From:20/08/2009 To:22/10/2009
KM 680 sunday Dep:21:00 Arr:21:00 From:20/08/2009 To:18/10/2009

Return : Tunis to Malta
Flight Number
KM 681 thursday Dep:06:45 Arr:08:45 From:20/08/2009 To:22/10/2009
KM 681 sunday Dep:21:55 Arr:23:55 From:20/08/2009 To:18/10/2009

All other solutions are far more time consuming and due to only 3 days in Malta out of question anyway !!!
Even the Air Malta flight schedule is very unconvenient !
So, i really recommend staying in Malta or make a hop over to Gozo island (frequently served by ferries and seaplanes)

I've been searching the same hop, but after 3 years things seem to be the same.
As pointed out, the quickest solution is via FCO with AZ/KM.
