Dining in Amsterdam

I'm in Amsterdam for the night staying at the Radisson SAS bang in the centre of town. Anybody care to recommend a decent moderately priced <EUR50 restaraunt? Don't really feel like anything overly spicy tonight, so asian food out.
TIA
Tom

Since nobody else is speaking up, I'll recommend de Klos cafe. It's a meat lovers delight!

Any recent recommendations for a modern fine-dining sort of place? I have a couple of favorites (Utrechtsedwarstafel and Bordewijk) but they're both closed on Mondays, and I'm trying to arrange a dinner on a Monday night.

Might try the Mansion? But it too might be closed Monday's. There is another place just off the Leidseplein which should suit you. It's sort of facing the ABN/Amro, but I can't recall the name. Smartly dressed crowd at both places.

Thanks. I'll look up the Mansion and keep my eyes open on the Leidseplein.

I think you mean D'Vijff Vlieghen? Which in English is the Five Flies. Right?

I like Visaandeschelde: http://www.visaandeschelde.nl/en/index.php

It's a fish restaurant on Scheldeplein.

Perhaps a bit over budget but it is really worth is. It's an Italian place where the staff sings operetta music. And the food is excellent as well. You do have to make reservations here as it can fill up quite fast.

Italian

I have two favorite Italian places in Amsterdam. One is Casa di David on the Singel. It has the best lasagna in town. I have always loved the restaurant, the crowd and ambiance and food. But I heard some people claim that it has gone downhill. So I went last night and found that they were completely wrong. The same nice Italians are still running it, the same waiters, etc. And still great lasagna.

My other favorite is well outside of the tourist area. L'Arena on Stadionweg in Oud-Zuid. Very friendly neighborhood place with northern Italian cuisine. Calzone's on Beethovenstraat is nice too.
