Luxury in Bucharest?
I am going to be in Bucharest for a few days in March and I was wondering if anyone recommends any of the hotels in the city. There is the only JW Marriott in Europe in Bucharest. There is also a Hilton. Does anyone have any recommendations on what the best hotel in the city is?

I've found the JW Marriott to be a reliable hotel, if not luxury as per this forum. The rooms are on the traditional side (green meets gold) but overall a decent hotel. The JW Steakhouse is excellent. The InterContinental is good as well. True luxury I don't think exists yet.

I stayed at the Budapest Intercontinental in August in a one-bedroom suite facing the river with club lounge access. The room was very nicely furnished and very comfortable. (It seemed a bit better appointed than similar rooms at the Prague and Berlin Marriotts where I also stayed on this same trip.)
The club lounge was excellent. The club lounge was large, never crowded, and had the same beautiful view as I had from my room. The lounge food buffet selections were nicely presented with wine, beer, and other alcohol included in the evening. There were wait staff in the lounge who kept the tables clean and would always offer to serve food or drinks from the buffet if you preferred not getting up to help yourself. It was a great place to relax, have some food and drinks in the evening and enjoy the great view.
The lounge staff was outstanding, e.g., very professional, friendly and helpful for making reservations for dinner, sightseeing, etc. In terms of service and food quality, it felt much more upscale than Marriott's lounges in Berlin and Prague.
Whether or not it fits the true luxury category, based on my one-time experience this is an excellent hotel.

Here's a different option: www.carolparchotel.ro - I reckon they would fit the bill of a luxury hotel better than the IC/Marriott/Hilton (the Radisson would also be in the mix with the latter 3).
Location is not perfect (residential neighborhood off the city center), but what with being a renovated palace & having Bulgari toiletries, it is a step above the corporate hotels.

I stayed at both the Hilton (where I was upgraded to a very large Suite) and at the Radisson in the largest suite.
Both were nice though the Radisson is much more modern. Service is however very neutral and uninteresting at the Radisson.
Here are pictures I had posted previously of the Radisson

As this thread is not really relative to the Luxury Hotels Forum, I am moving it to the FT Europe Forum.
Please continue to follow the discussion there...
