How to kill 5 hours at Frankfurt Airport?
I am traveling with Lufthansa and have a five hour layover at Frankfurt airport. Any suggestion on how I can spend this time at airport? I am sliver preferred with US Airways so clubs are not going to be accessible. I don’t want to leave the airport so any suggestions are appreciated.
Also, are there any power outlets on Frankfurt airport for laptop charging?
Thanks!

Otherwise, you could pay (16 Euro and they take credit cards) to access the Europe City Club (ECC) Lounge, which is a club run by the airport. It's pretty quiet and you'll have access to power points (though wifi, as with most places in Europe, will likely be extra). The lounge is after security, on Level 3 (the top level) of Terminal 1 (Concourse B) and fairly close to the C Gates usually used by US Airways.
The other option would be to exit the airport terminal and go to the Sheraton, which is joined to the terminal departures level/ticketing area by a covered walkway. There are pretty good eating drinking and rest opportunities here (way better than anything in the terminal).

Depends on the timing, but I'm sure they do "behind the scenes" tours. Frankfurt Airport is actually one of the city's tourist attractions (which possibly says quite a lot about the city itself!!!)
An alternative to "Mainhattan" is to go the other way on the S-Bahn. Mainz is a quaint little town famous for wine and it's 800 year old cathedral, and Wiesbaden is a old-style spa city full of well-heeled people shopping at well-heeled boutiques. Both are about 20-30 mins away.

The airport is a sucko place to be for any amount of time. Period.
Don't be afraid to take the S-Bahn from the basement level of the terminal to Mainz or Wiesbaden. Both are only 20-25 minutes away on the comuter train. Then a walk will be good for you.
I, personally, would go to Mainz and find the Käsebrochen and Pizzabrochen kiosk just outside the Hauptbahnhoff.
The trains run every 20 minutes or so. Five hours is way too much time for the FRA terminal. And it's even plenty of time for entering Germany, buying a RT rail Fahrfarten, the short train rides, a walk, a snack, and exit formalities! You'll be glad that you did it.
Please post your outcome during/after the trip.

Or, if you are in the mood for some 'adult' enertainment, you can take the train to the Frankfurt Hbf, and visit the red-light district just across the street.

Thank you all for good feedback on this thread! It appears that best way to enjoy this downtime is to adventure out in to city. I’ll for sure post the trip outcome.
How easy are the exit formalities for US Citizens? Are there any requirements for transit visa?

We had a 5 hour layover on my way to Istambul. Since my friend had never been to Germany, we rented a car and drove along the Rhine to see all the castles-- It was great -- early morning mist off the river and very picturesque. We drove for about 80 minutes, then turned around and returned to the airport.
On the way back from Istambul we took the train into Frankfurt for lunch.
(great sausages and beer)

Going through security is QUITE thorough as you prepare to leave FRA, however. Much more of an issue than the immigrations process. but don't worry about it.
You mentioned "going into the city." DON'T go into Frankfurt. It offers little, especially near the Hbf.
DO take the train OUT to Mainz and back. You can buy your ticket from the vending machine, too. And if you need Euros, there are ATM's for that along the way out from baggage claim.

Last time I was there (ok 26 years ago) there was great underground shopping. I am finally coming back in Oct and was hoping that this was still in place. Has the shopping mall disappeared?

yes and there is one on the upper concourse as well. They also have on in VIE, though its just a shop no movies.
