Rome Hotel Help

Hello well educated travelers..

I am trying to find my brother and his wife a nice place to stay in Rome for their 10th anniversary, but they do not have a lot of money. He is US Air Force stationed in Brussels. They are going Nov 19-23 (four nights). They would like to find a nice place near the coliseum or Vatican for around 125 US a night. Is this possible? Any suggestions? I appreciate your help.

This hotel was recommended by Rick Steves a while back.

Also, here's a link to some reviews and suggestions from SlowTrav:

Edited to add: I personally did not stay at any of these, so I'm not giving a specific recommendation.

The Hotel Alimandi near the Vatican is a wonderful hotel and is priced reasonably. The only downside is that it is a 15 minute subway ride to the downtown area (Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc.), but the Vatican is right next door. We stayed there for five nights in August, if I recall, a double is 100ish EUR a night in the off season. It is run by a family and they do a fantastic job. They also have a complimentary shuttle to and from FCO.
