Automatic Border Control

Did anyone use the Automated Border Control machines lately ? I quite like to use them when I come back from non-Schengen countries like the UK or CH to get through the controls quicker. However, sometimes it does work, sometimes it doesn´t. Sometimes the bloody machine just rejects my passport... any other opinions ?

(For those who haven´t seen those things - they are scanning your eye and scan your passport to get through customs - fully automated and no queueing - in theory.)

Do you need to register for this in advance, or can I just arrive and go through the system?

I really like to use them and so far it has worked for me every time, with one exception when I didnt take off my glasses.

Especially at peak times it is really nice to not stand in line, which can save you a lot of time. I hope they roll them out at more locations, e.g. in Terminal 1A and C and Terminal 2, and in more airports across Germany.

I use them, when I am connecting in FRA (to be honest, this is not very often). It gets you in peak time in less than a minute through border control. But I have had some problems in the past, too.

The scanner for your passport needs the whole page with the maschin readable identiy card. The cover of the passport is bigger than the card with you personal information. If the scanner rejects my passport, I try again and be sure, that the page with the card is on the scanner and not the cover.
