Munich 3-5Oct ... Help!
Hey team -
I'm a bad person and I left my planning for Oktoberfest extremely late. As such, no hostels for Oktoberfest in Munich, and the hotels are sparse. Any suggestions on what to do, where to stay, what's an appropriate rate around this time? Thanks for your help!

Try some of the european hotel chain websites like Accor. You may also have some luck running a search through travelocity, etc.
I like looking at the Frommer's website and seeing what they recommend.
Finally, I'm on the road, or I'd share some links for european hotel searchs. I'd suggest looking over the last year's topics here, looking for websites to help you out.

You may have a bit of a problem here... 3 October is Germany's national holiday, and with it falling on a Friday this year lots of people will be taking week-end breaks... so accommodation is likely to be in fairly short supply.
I know it's not a perfect solution, but your best bet may be to try somewhere outside Munich - for example, Rosenheim which is about 45 minutes away on the train line to Salzburg.
You mention hostels, so you are obviously looking for budget accommodation. If you are over 26 you will not be able to use "official" (=IYHF-affiliated) youth hostels in the state of Bavaria.

Try Starnberg or other small cities (on HRS.com). The S-Bahn goes to Starnberg.

Don't give up--you may have luck researching bed & breakfasts or homestays. Try a search, & see what you come up with. Most countries have a government certification for these accomodations--if you use one, try to get one that bears this mark.
If all else fails and you have a fairly early arrival, head for the tourist office & see what they can do. Or, book one night somewhere like a Mercure & bite the bullet on the price, then research locally at your leisure.
Or, take a tent & camp!

Try the sheraton website at www.sheraton.com
They had rooms at the Arabella Bogenhausen
abut 1 block from the subway..At 120euro...
the Four Points Sheraton at the Olympic Park
was about the same rate. Is 2 blocks from subway and BMW Building at Olympic Stadium.
The Bogenhausen is the better of the two.
Rooms were available as of 9-11-03 at about 10pm eastern

Was actually going to post a follow-up exactly mentioning this, but thanks!
got the Grand for 150 and the Bogenhausen for 120 (one member of FT said that the former was better)...
Its on the same U-Bahn line as Therienweiese (Oktboerfest), but about 8 stops away. So thanks again all for your help!
