I have a few days in Latvia (on a free side trip) - does anyone have memorable places or things to do which they experienced and can recommend? I am going early october.

I spent a night in Riga en route from Minsk to Tallinn last July. I was staying with a local woman, an English teacher at the local art university, and she was a wonderful guide to the architecture of the city. The architecture is what I think of most about Riga... how diverse but beautiful it is.

I've made a number of short visits to Riga. I agree, the architecture is fascinating. You might consider taking side trips to Jurmala and Sigulda to get a sampling of some of the different places outside of Riga if you have the time. (Each can be reached inexpensively by train from Riga.)
