ETIAS Introduction for UK passport

Does anyone have information on the introduction of the charges and how long it might take for applications to be processed? How long in advance should one be applying? Etc..

https://etias.com/

Suggests currently coming in ‘late’ 2023.
Cost €7
Most applications processed in minutes.

I’m sure once there is a definite date all will be perfectly clear.

Thank you Ticket Fairy 🧚‍♀️
sounds like it’ll be nothing more than applying for your ESTA.
I’m a forward planner! I’ll be patient.

I think november has been mentioned, but since it’s been postponed several times already I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Benefits would be not having stamps in passports - which is a problem if you travel frequently, and using e passport gates.

Purely out of interest, is the UK Government initiating a reciprocal charge/process? On the surface it seems like a free income stream as most of the admin is already in place. Perhaps I’m being naïve?

Not that I am aware of - although it does seem to be the direction of travel generally to introduce these pre arrival electronic travel systems so I suspect it may come at some point anyway.

So much for "visa free" travel. A travel authorization that in reality is just a visa.

to be blunt, it is not a visa.

if you needed a visa to visit the EU prior to ETIAS, you will still need one after it starts.

Will UK passports still need to be stamped with a Schengen entry and exit stamp after ETIAS has been rolled out?

I think that they have not found a "friend" to write the SW yet

If you're under 18 or over 70, it's free, according to etias.com

This info is for people travelling to the UK. This thread was about people travelling from the UK to EU countries. The start date is sometime late 2023.
