Corfu - Greece

Hi Everyone

Hopefully making my first visit to Corfu week after next; really excited about visiting as looks an awesome island!

I wondered if anyone had any tips on good sights, beaches, bars and restaurants to check out around the place. I'll be based between the Old Town and Kanoni and reliant on buses to get me about. One stop on the list for sure is the bar in Kanoni overlooking the runway

I wondered if anyone had visited in recent weeks and could say if it's different at all in these new times; keen to know if it's wise to take cash or if card is widely being accepted atm.

Many thanks in advance

We made an unexpected visit to Corfu via cruise ship in January 2019. Winds were too high to get in to Kotor, so Corfu was subbed last minute. We had a very nice day there.

We had a car and driver take us around - though with planning I am sure you can get everywhere on the bus. A highlight was the Monastery of Paleokastritsa and surrounding beach/coast on the other side of the island. Definitely make a day getting out there, exploring, and getting back. Our driver took us through some villages up high in the north center of the island on the way back - cool to see and great views as you come back to old town - perhaps see if there is a bus that takes the long way back to town.

We went in winter and there were ATMs many places - like by the Kanoni Cafe/airport overlook. But in winter some of the ATMs were closed - including that one. I found myself without cash there and unable to buy a drink. Would assume ATMs are still open in September, but maybe not if Covid has emptied the island. Always good to have some cash.
