ETIAS application - when?

I'll be traveling to the EU somewhat regularly for business starting in Q3 of this year, and onward for the foreseeable future. My wife's job allows her to work remotely (technically both of our jobs do), so she'll be tagging along on some of those trips, and she's a US citizen only.
Has there been an announcement as to when she can do her ETIAS application, so she can be ready for next year's trips?

The plan was to have it operational in early 2021 but so far no update. IMHO it will be delayed.

You don't need to worry about that just yet. And recent events may somewhat curtail your travel plans, even in Q3.

This is a non-issue in 2020 even pre-Covid. When and how it is implemented sometime in 2021 remains a mystery and nothing of concern until rules and then a process are established.

I would be shocked if funds and effort are directed to this project in any event.

Our team literally just had that very specific meeting.

I have been on many phone calls today with clients and business associates. The jst of the discussion around travel (for larger firms) is that essential business travel is non-existent at the moment, heavily restricted until further notice (expect that to change), and unlikely to start making its way back to normal levels before the fall. For those that physically have to be in a place because their presence is required to push a button or turn a know it is a little different, but regularly scheduled travel is wiped clean at the moment.
