Unfortunately the latest update from Turkish Railways on the BTK train is disappointing. Service will not start this year after all. Turkish Railways finally revealed that it owns only a single 10-car train, which will not be enough for regular service. Stadler is now assembling the 2nd train at its Belarus factory, and it's scheduled for delivery in Q1-2020.

I totally love the South Caucasus region. I wrote a comprehensive article about Georgia from the city, countryside, and food and wine. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

On a separate occasion, I also visited Baku. Totally unexpected - it's very clean and people are very warm and hospitable.
