Looks increasingly likely it was a bomb of some sort

Not been a great year for airport security, NSA missing 95% of weapons and explosives in tests, the bombing of that Russian aircraft and now this.

Most unfortunate..shrapnel 300 meters away damaging aircraft sounds like a large explosion.

Worrying. IST is a transit point for many of us. Is the media beginning to comment on the safety of IST vs SAW?

I fly through SAW at least 6 times a year and more through IST. Very problematic.

Has there been any update on this? It's very worrying if there was a security breach at the airport.

I find it very worrying that according to this BBC News story, published hours after the blast, the Turkish transport minister has already said
(a)weakness in the airport's security is out of the question
. That's like looking at a plane crash and saying "we can already be sure that there was no human error".

Well, no, you can't. And if a bomb went off inside your airport, you better have a closer look at your security measures. Not very confidence-inspiring.

Odd the way a story involving explosive murder and mayhem at a widely traveled airport just fell off the radar.

With Russian embargoes and concerns about the internal stability of the country I doubt the Turkish Government is massively keen on the adverse publicity so I imaging they are stalling like mad in the hope people will forget.

The Turkish press which is not exactly free, has already forgotten all about it.

As this has nothing to do with Turkish Airlines I am moving this to the Europe forum

I'd say an explosion at one of TK's hub airports is very related to Turkish Airlines especially since passengers flying on TK won't look in the Europe forum for this information.
