First time in Geneva
Hello,
I will be in Geneva next week for a couple of weeks and was wondering what can be done as far as sight seeing is concerned. We will be staying in the center of the city and will have our two year old son with us.
Will two days be enough or not to see everything that Geneva has to offer?
Any help we can get here will be really appreciated.

I find Geneva more interesting if you are looking to buy an expensive watch or some other upscale "stuff". There are some pricey hotels
Geneva is very laid back, quiet, compact and very expensive.
The views on the other hand are really nice; take a boat tour around the lake.
The reality is that it does not take too much to make a two year old happy; find a nice park (around the lake), some swings and you have a happy child. There is a fountain in the lake that may interested your child.
There are some nice chocolate stores.
Try the raclette (tons of melted cheese on potatoes); There are also some excellent caviar places where you can have vodka with caviar and blinis the way it was intended to be served.

Anyone done the bus to Chamonix and the cable car up to Aiguille du midi before? I've got a weekend up coming in Geneva and I was thinking of visiting the City sights on one day, and going up the cable car the other.

Don't do this unless the weather is very good. In other words this has to be a bit of a last minute decision, maybe just the day before, when you've seen the weather forecast. Otherwise you're going to see a lot of cloud (or rather be in a lot of cloud).

When I was in Geneve, I visited Mont-Saleve just across the border in France.
Very close to Geneve (7 km ?), cable car station reachable by public transport and very good views of Geneva to one side and the higher mountains on the other side.

For anyone else who might be reading this in the future, just some tips:
- Cheapest transport (that I found) was by EasyBus - it's cheaper if you book earlier, for me booking last minute it was around €35 for a return trip. Downsides: It's strictly Geneva Airport - Chamonix Train Station, which is a short walk from the Aiguille du Midi 'base station.'
- If you are planning to spend a full day, buy the Day Pass for €58.50 instead of individual return tickets.
- Lunch up at the 3842 cafe costs around €30-€35 and during peak seasons you should probably call to make reservations. Food's decent but portions are small.
- Aiguille du Midi + Lunch + Mer de Glace took me 6hr15min in total (not including transport from Geneve to Chamonix). YMMV depending on peak / non-peak season and how long you need to take photos, eat, etc.
