Floriade
Hello to all. I signed up a while back and have done lots of reading here, but am just now making my first post. Mr. bv and I hope to get to Europe early this summer. We would like to spend a week in London and then spend a week somewhere else. I have come across some publicity for Floriade 2012 in Venlo, Netherlands. Have any of you attended this in the past? Do you think it is worth the trip? Thanks for any help you can give.

I went in 1992. It was 20 years ago and I really hope the organization now has been improved. It was in Zoetermeer as I recall. It was a very nice flowers expo. From several places of the world. If you enjoy botanical and flowers watching, this is the place to go.
The issue was that there were few, very few places to eat, all of them with long lines, hours of waiting, so at 2pm aprox I got tired and took a train to The Hague (not far), so I visited the city and got a good lunch.
Hope the recent Floriades were better in that point.

Thank you for the response. Since Floriade is only once every ten years, we figured this was our chance, at least for a long time. It seems that very few folks have heard of it, though, and that makes us question whether it would be worth it to go out of our way for it. We are still planning the post-London part of the trip, and are now feeling that we would go to Floriade if we were in the general area, but would probably not go out of the way for it. Thanks again.

I went in 2002, and I don't recall any problems getting food... so it looks like the probably learnt from the mistakes they made in 1992.
I remember it as being very much a Dutch event, with very few international visitors.... and that's despite the fact that it was held just down the road from Schiphol that year.
