Hotels in Amsterdam

Hi everybody !

I'm planning a small trip to amsterdam for 8th to 10th of april (I love waiting for the last minute..) with my best friend and i'm in need of help when it comes to hotels...

Few things first :
. we'll be two male guests, so twin beds is an obligation
. we don't have any particular hotel loyalty program (except A Club for me)
. we're looking for a luxury hotel ( 4 + ou 5 stars)
. i'd like to keep hotel expenses close to 700 euros for 2 nights ( 350 e / night)

So I narrowed down a few hotels, thanks to FT and internet searching, which might make the deal, but I'd like some advice to get the best bang for my buck !

. Grand Hotel Amrath : can't actually make my mind about this one, reviews are so inconsistent...

. Sofitel the Grand: soft product seems to be on par with the best sofitels around, rooms seem to be REALLY small, but I do have a 40 euro rebate on aclub and i'm wondering if, by any chance knowing that accor is far from being generous, the fact that this stay would make me go to silver status may get me upgraded from a superior room to a deluxe room, which seem acceptable with the twin beds configuration)

. Hotel Okura : seems quite nice, prices are far from being outrageous but it does not seem like 5 star standart and really far from city center

. Hotel Pulitzer : thats the big question ! Reviews found online can be pretty harsh, and criticize the service for being far from 5 star standart, but they do have a standart deal with virtuoso (room upgrade if available, late check out and breakfast included..)

The IC Amstel, though maybe the best fitted to my needs, is too expensive (850 for the 2 nights) . Any deal in order to lower the bill ?

So what would you advise me, given that i'm looking for nice service, acceptable room with twin bedded configuration and not more than 700 or at max 800 euros for the entire stay ?

Thanks a lot ! (and hotel review coming in 2 weeks )

Try the Krasnapolsky. It doesn't get more city-center than that, really, being on the Dam square, across from the Royal Palace. They may not have availability for those dates though.

Close to it is the Swissôtel.

Apologies in advance if we were only to comment on the hotels you listed.

On the dates you list, Travelocity has the Hilton at $254 US per night, including breakfast. It's a very nice hotel, a bit out of the city center but no more than 5-10 min tram ride to anywhere you want to go. I've stayed there twice and liked it quite a bit. It's in a really nice neighborhood with several restaurants and coffee bars (note I didn't say coffee shops, that's different in Amsterdam ) within walking distance. (It's also quiet at night which is what I prefer.) Since the starting price is well below your E350/night, you could always pay a bit more to upgrade to something better than the standard room too.

I've also stayed at the Marriott, great location right across from the casino and just down from the Leidseplein. More expensive than the Hilton, almost as nice, better location.

I've stayed at NH Barbizon and it's a definitely no more than a four star hotel so not luxury. Location is terrific though, about a block away from Centraal Station and a short walk to lots of places.

CyBeR mentioned Krasnapolsky and while it's in a great location the rooms can be hit or miss, IMO. It also has a sort of methane odor that permeates the hotel that can be mildly offensive.

Wherever you stay, I'm sure you'll enjoy Amsterdam. Let us know how it went! :-::-:
