4.5 days in Prague - what to do?
I just got a good DL fare, so I'm finally going to PRG, April 23-28. Short trip, I'm hoping for decent weather.
Now I have to start research. Any recommendations? I'm thinking of an overnight in Cesky Krumlov. Anyone been to Brno? Any other nearby recommended day trips?
I'm already wondering why I didn't just go ahead and book more time, but it's too late to change now.

Is this your first trip to Prague? If so, I would concentrate more on seeing the city and getting a feel for it than on day trips, aside from the one to Cesky Krumlov.
Also, you will be there over Easter + Easter Monday. Check out the Easter markets and opening times for any sight you want to see.

Museums, architecture, historical sites, pretty mainstream, really. Big outdoor fan, but I'm thinking it might be too early in the year to count on good weather (cycling, hiking, climbing, etc). Solo traveller, so I don't care about night life, although a classical or folk performance in the evening would be fine (love the guitar concerts in Barcelona, for example). Not looking for fine dining, although food tips are always welcome.

I would rather go to Cesky Krumlov or some more close cities to Prague.

Any day trips closer to Prague or do you recommend I just split my time between Prague and Cesky Krumlov? I didn't realize it's Easter weekend, so I'm going to have to be careful that everything isn't closed on Good Friday or Easter Sunday.

This site might help you Prague Experience. The Easter Market looks like it could be fun as well as the Easter Monday pageantry. There also seems to be a link on there to what's open on Easter weekend. There really is a lot to do in Prague especially if you are into History and this is your first visit. I'd personally spend the full 4 1/2 days in the city and skip Cesky Krumlov. My bet is that you will want to go back to Prague and have opportunities to visit outlaying cities.

There are tons of day trips from Prague that are closer/'quicker than Krumlov. It all depends what you want. Krumlov is stereotypical perfect little European town...on a giant hill over a river with a castle towering above it. It's also very heavily touristed.
There are dozens of others of towns and cities that are also beautiful (if not AS beautiful), and perhaps more charming. Hradec Kralove is a nice city that nobody visits. Plzen has the brewery and a nice center. The cities on the Labe/Elbe towards Dresden are charming. Pardubice is nice. Olomouc is a college town that is really beautiful and charming. Beroun is less than an hour from Prague, at the junction of two rivers, with a nice old town, hiking along the river, etc.
I always urge visitors to Prague to go to the parks and walk around, no matter what the weather, although when the weather is nice they're amazing.

Loved it there!
Prague is amazing and 4 days there can go by quickly. I spent one whole day (and barely had enough time) at the castle and I did climb all the way to the top of the church tower for the magnificent view.
Don't forget to visit the Museum of Communism - it's next to a casino and a MacDonalds.
