checking in at IST

Flying LGW-IST (Wizzair) and then IST-AUH (Etihad) on separate tickets with about 4 hours between the flights. Hand baggage only, UK passport.

Assuming that I am able to check-in to my Etihad flight and have a boarding pass to hand, can someone please tell me if I have understood this correctly - after landing at IST, all I need to do is follow signs for international transfers and go to the departure gate.

Does that sound right? If I don't have the boarding pass (or Istanbul is one of those airports where Etihad passengers needs to verify travel documents at a check-in desk) will there be an Etihad desk in the transit area that will allow me to check-in for the AUH flight?

Thanks!
