Return of 77Ws - 2-class only?

As demand picks back up, I guess it was inevitable that some of the 77Ws will return to service. However, all the 77Ws scheduled into the rotations appear to be 2-class - which is a shame because the 3-class 77Ws would have been a way to bolster F routes again in place of the A380.

Am I right in recalling that the 2-class 77Ws have the ancient J seat (i.e. a generation older than those in the old 3-class 77W/A330)? If so, I would be actively trying to avoid being on the 77Ws.

My next AUH-MAN rotation is currently slated as 77W both ways... a real downgrade from the 787 both in J and Y.
It's been a few years since I flew the 77W but I think (hope) the "OLD OLD" version is no longer in use and the OLD version is.

I don't recall that they ever re-fitted the 2-class 77W with the "OLD" version, so it may well be the "OLD OLD" version.

Hopefully someone who flies on one of these flights can report back.

Quite! One silver lining is that these older seats don't have the inflatable cushions so you won't be stuck with one that has deflated, which used to be a chronic problem on the 787/A380s. Not sure whether they ever managed to improve reliability in that regard.

Was surprised to see a 77w scheduled for my flight to FRA in a few weeks, i've actually never flown business on the 77w before, bit gutted to be honest, but a new experience I guess!

Oh dear. These seats are really not competitive any more. Lack of storage & somewhat tight & a somewhat clunky old design these days. Sigh. Get the next 3 A350's into service pronto!

Hoping that my 4 family's 4 segments later in the year remain B787

According to Airfleets.net there are only 8 EY 77Ws currently active.
Of those only 5 appear to be actually flying as passenger aircraft with trips within the last 7 days:

A6-ETE - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-ete - no flights
A6-ETG - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-etg
A6-ETH - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-eth - freighter flights (9xxx code)
A6-ETI - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-eti - freighter flights (9xxx code)
A6-ETJ - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-etj
A6-ETP - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-etp
A6-ETQ - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-etq
A6-ETS - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/a6-ets

I would expect the younger airframes (P,Q,S) to have the "OLD" seats but G & J may have the OLD OLD...
I'm pretty sure I've flown on most of these aircraft in years gone by but cannot find any photos or evidence to back that up!

Oh gosh yes those are the ones where the massage balls wear through the cushion to leave hard points that are super uncomfortable, had thankfully consigned that to distant memory

Interestingly enough, this flight has now changed to 3 class. Etihad have now really thrown a spanner in the works offering me a 900gbp upgrade offer from business to first.

I'm tempted but then I'm wondering if this product is that much better than the 787 business studio...Would be interested on peoples opinion on this? Never flown Etihad first. I'm platinum so I'll get the lounge access regardless.

The financially reckless avgeek in me really wants to do it, but I'm not sure it's worth it!

Will be the same as was on the A340 with the Ferrari upholsterer seats etc, is still excellent and a lot of room

77W F is still very nice, and is a bigger upgrade over the worse J compared to 787 F vs. J (which is already a worthwhile upgrade).

However, whether it’s worth 900GBP is a separate question - I would happily use miles but that amount would give me pause, unlike the easy decision of spending the same amount to upgrade J to F for CDG-DXB on AF.

I believe everything from A6-ETK, which was the first 3-class 77W delivered, onwards have the OLD seats as opposed to the OLD OLD seats.

It looks like A6-ETS is the only 3-class remaining in the fleet.

Didn't opt for the upgrade in the end, but at least I should just have the OLD seats and the added benefit of the 2 row minicabin. Small victories...

Look at how thin those armrests are!!...about the same as economy class. How can anyone flying long haul "business class" endure those "business class" armrests?
I suppose ET are trying to keep their fares low to attract the bottom half of the bussiness class flyers. I bet any savvy bussiness class flyers would avoid these seats like plaques.
