UPD printed on boarding card.

Any ideas what it's for?

I'm a gold level guest member and fly a little for business. I'm booked on business class not upgraded and I was the only one in our travelling party with UPD printed in bold above my name on the tear off and in bold across the top after the travel class.

Are you travelling on an a388 as I'd assume it just stood for upper deck?

So that the crew member that greets you at the door can instantly see that they need to direct you upstairs!!!

Correct. Particularly at outstations where ground staff are not EY.

The real issue is people assume it means upgrade! But the oversold code is a different code

Direct you upstairs? I've not been boarded on an a380 yet where the air bridge isn't connected to the level I'm sitting on.

There are a few different codes in use for upgrades:

OS# (where # is a number variable) - Probably for oversold? Operational Upgrade
UPM - Upgrade Miles, but only when processed at the airport

Any others?

Correct! It is so the ground staff can easily direct you to the correct air bridge.
